How do we know there is no hidden medical treatments for aging or cancer.

Everytime a rich person dies of old age or cancer, we that know there is no conspiracy to keep secret treatments from the general public.

False expert

When an expert with a great reputation in one field gives opinions on another field that they are not an expert in.

How does a psychopath sell beef

I was in the states recently and there was a lot of grass fed beef. I thought that sounded great! In hindsight, I was interpreting this as if I had said "grass fed beef" so I was imagining a cow in a field eating grass.  I got home and saw a story about how chicken is being washed in bleach to clean it. Then I realized that I should have interpreted the statement "grass fed beef" as if a psychopath was telling me that not a normal person. Corporations act similarly to psychopaths. Now that I interpret this imaging that a psychopath is telling me they sell grass fed beef instead of imagining a cow in a field eating beef I imagine a factory farm where someone throws in a blade of grass into the normal feed the cow was eating thus producing grass fed beef.

The cowardly debate

I listen to a lot of podcasts. I am finding sometimes the podcaster will debate someone who is not present by imagining what the person would say or playing short clips of what the person did say. Then the podcaster responds. This is a very cowardly way to debate someone. Risk is removed by not having the other person be present. That is bad pod.

Corridor bug

A bug in a workflow that requires multiple fixes which must be done in sequence when you don't know how many fixes are needed so the whole workflow completes. I imagine it as a corridor of doors. Opening a door is fixing a bug. After opening one door you seen the next door so know the problem is not fixed but you do not know how many doors you need to open to get through problem. This can also be used to describe computer games.

How does religion work on other planets?

There are billions of galaxies out there. If there is intelligent life on other planets did God reveal himself to them? If so did he do it the same way. If there is a planet of intelligent spider like beings was one of them the 'Moses' and God gave him tablets with commandments. Then the spider Moses shared that with the other spider beings on the planet of intelligent spiders. Then they know to go to spider church and pray to God.

Was there a spider Jesus? Maybe it was the same Jesus that was here but he was in a spider body on the spider planet. Maybe that's why Jesus has not come back to earth; he is traveling to the planets with intelligent life bringing the word of God to all the intelligent life in the universe.

Science + Rationality

What I understand rationality to be. Rationality is that you reason in a manner that can be expressed using proof's in first order logic assuming certain facts. A fact is a statement whose truth value you assume to be true. Axiom is another name for statement that are assumed to be true. Generating proofs is not necessarily done but could be if desired.

Science combines rational reasoning with observations that occur in reality. Basically you make observations in reality that you assume as facts. Then rational reasoning is used to derive theorems from the facts. The hypothesis is a statement whose truth value is to be calculated. Science it a method to get starting facts for rational reasoning that prove or disprove the hypothesis.

Non-stick pans

Non stick pans exists because of low fat cooking. Cooking in fat means a frying pan can be used because there are no issues with sticking.

Gamers and Nerds and Stoners

People who play games all the time are not nerds they are much closer to stoners.

Global warming proponents

One thing I find funny about people who talk about global warming is that usually they clearly have no interest in science except for global warming. So I like to ask them what are the five steps of the scientific method. They never know. I always find it hilarious.

The pizza model of religion

I follow the pizza model of religion. Image if a stranger came to our land and wanted a pizza. I would tell them to google "nearby pizza places" then phone a nearby place and ask for a pizza to be delivered to their address and then receive and pay for the pizza. I think it is fair to say that in 99.999 percent of the places in North America the person would end up with a pizza.

I have in the past tried praying to God for results. Not a single time were my prayers answered. So I don't pray. I have found God less reliable then people who make pizza's. I don't mind trying God-related activities but I would only continue them if they met the pizza standard of reliability.

The Irony of Dementia

My Dad has recently went to a retirement home due to dementia. From what I can tell based on his behaviour he is unable to make new memories. The irony is that he cannot make the memory that he has dementia because the dementia prevents him from making new memories.

I have a plan now that I will use a sharpie to color my right index finger black when I have dementia. It seems when you have dementia you can use your old memories in the current environment and understand what is going on but you cannot make new memories. For example, my Dad's place looks like a hotel and he has his room number written on his walker so he is able to find where he lives using his memories of how a hotel works but when he is walking there he clearly has no idea of where he lives without these cues.

I am expecting I will be able to detect that I have dementia and then color my finger before my short term memory is lost. Of course I don't know if it works that way. Ironically if I get dementia I will not know if this finger trick works since I will not be able to make new memories.
